How to recaulk an RV roof like a pro

Recaulking the RV is as important as recoating the roof. Because water can leak into the RV even using the smallest opening around ceiling, walls or windows, and can cause major problems. Keep a constant eye on the condition of your RV caulking. When you see RV roof caulking is cracking than its time to replace it.



Clean up the old caulking


Before you start to rip-off the old sealant, check the weather forecast and make sure there is no rain forecast for few days. Because you have to remove the old caulking and apply the new one before it rains. Clean the RV using power wash to remove stains and dead bugs. Next remove the old caulk using some handy tools like putty knife, razor or carpet blades.

Instead of using any ordinary caulk use Rubex MS. Rubex MS is a highly weather resistant and paintable caulk. It is a field tested product and will no void warranty of your roof coating. Rubex MS is very effective in sealing around RV’s vents AC's and corners.


Applying New Caulking


Make sure the surface is dried and clean, free from oil and moisture. Rubex MS is usually applied by pumping using a caulking gun or power gun. Do not handle, move, or pack for one hour until a surface film has formed. Once cured, Rubex MS can be painted with most industrials and consumer paints, but prior testing is recommended.





Product Handling


Do not open until you are ready to use it, in order to maximize shelf life. If, possible apply caulking outdoors in order to have proper ventilation. Avoid contact with body parts e.g., eyes, lips, and mouth.
